ニュージーランド、オーストラリア及び南アフリカに分布し、近年ヨーロッパやアメリカにも分布を広げている。日本でも東京湾沿岸で見られるようになった。イネ科の植物に生息し、複眼が腹面で後方に伸びていることで、N. brevicollisと容易に区別できる。食菌性。

This species is distributed in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, and has recently invaded to Europe and the United States. It also invaded the coastal area of Tokyo Bay in Japan.
